June 2026 to present
My work: Electrical integration and testing, KiCad schematics, Data-logger bench testing, Canvas training workspace, Team website
Status: Schematics in progress, first bench checks done, not yet tested on the car

SRJC is building its first Baja SAE car for the 2027 competition in Arizona. I'm on the electrical side, working on integration and testing: I draw schematics, bench-test the data logger, and work with the other subteams so the sensors, power, and wiring fit the car they're building.

Electrical work

I set up the car's electrical schematics as one KiCad project, with an overview sheet linking the power, safety, and data-acquisition sheets. I drew the overview, power, and safety sheets and co-drew the data-acquisition sheet with a teammate. They cover the car's 12 V power, the kill switches, brake light, and reverse warning required by the rules, and four planned speed inputs for the data logger, with the safety circuits kept separate from the logger. In September 2026, I presented the schematics to the electrical team and walked through how to read the symbols and trace each circuit.

Safety sheet: two kill switches in parallel to the ignition, both brake switches driving the brake light through a relay, and the reverse light and alarm. Select to see the full sheet.
Power sheet: the 12 V battery through a main fuse, split into fused branches for the data logger, brake light, and reverse warning. Select to see the full sheet.
Part of the shared DAQ sheet: four planned speed sensors wired to the data logger's RPM inputs.

Bench testing

In September 2026, I ran the first bench checks on our RaceCapture/Pro MK4 data logger over USB. I updated its firmware, confirmed the live dashboard, checked that the IMU responded to motion, got a GPS fix outside, and spot-checked its analog and digital inputs. I also measured the 5 V reference that will power the speed sensors. On USB power it read about 4.69 V, just under the sensors' 4.75 V minimum, one more reason the sensor tests will run on the car's 12 V supply rather than USB. Nothing has been tested on the car yet.

Team systems

I built and maintain the electrical team's work plan, a shared spreadsheet that tracks weekly assignments and status. I also built and maintain the team's Canvas workspace for onboarding, subteam organization, and manufacturing training, where members pass six qualifications before using shop equipment, and the team website, srjcsaeclub.org.
